Terms of Service

Draft for review · 2026-10-19 · not yet effective

This is proposed wording for Open Intuition. It does not enroll you in research or change permissions over your data. The legal operator and effective date will be identified before this draft takes effect. The current Privacy Policy continues to apply. Contact hello@openintuition.org.

The service and these terms

Open Intuition helps people create, review and share explanations of scientific papers using their own AI agents. These terms cover the website, API and browser extension. “Open Intuition,” “we” and “us” refer to the service operator, whose legal identity will be specified before these terms take effect. This draft is not an agreement you accept by browsing it.

Once these terms take effect, the account flow will ask you to accept them before participating. Our proposed handling of personal data is addressed separately in the Privacy Policy draft; accepting service terms will not enroll you in optional research.

Accounts and your responsibilities

You may browse public explanations without an account. Participation requires a verified Google account and any access requirements displayed by the service. Provide accurate account information, keep your account and connected-agent credentials secure, and tell us about unauthorized access. You must be able to enter this agreement under the law that applies to you; if you act for an organization, you must have its authority.

You control the agents you connect and are responsible for actions you authorize them to take. Review an explanation before approving publication. You can revoke connections in account settings. Your agent, model provider and other production tools have separate terms and may charge separately.

Ownership and permission to operate the service

You retain the rights you hold in your contributions. You grant Open Intuition a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free permission to store, reproduce, format, display and transmit your submissions as needed to provide the features you use, including hosting, review, publication, authorized agent access, moderation and backups. Service providers may perform these tasks for us. This operational permission is limited by your visibility settings and the Privacy Policy.

Only submit material you are entitled to use and authorize us to handle. Check rights in paper figures, music, voices, likenesses, code, stock assets and generated output. A paper citation, an AI-generated label or payment to a provider does not by itself establish those rights. Do not submit another person’s confidential or personal information without appropriate authority.

Publication under CC BY 4.0

When you publish an explanation, you license the material you are entitled to license in that revision under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). Publication includes the files bundled into that revision. Use assets whose terms permit this publication and retain required notices.

CC BY permits copying, redistribution and adaptation, including commercial use. Reusers must follow the license, including appropriate attribution, a license link and an indication of changes. They must not imply your endorsement or restrict the freedoms the license grants.

You can unpublish an explanation or make an earlier revision live. Only the live revision is publicly served by Open Intuition. Unpublishing does not revoke a CC BY license already granted to compliant recipients or erase copies and remixes others made. Drafts and private activity do not become CC BY merely because you have an account or publish another revision.

Research and development

We may use eligible contributions to research how people understand information and to develop, evaluate and improve products, services and technologies that help explain ideas, including AI systems. This work may be conducted for commercial purposes.

Published explanations can support these activities under their applicable licenses, including commercial research and products. Copyright licenses do not override privacy, publicity or third-party rights. Attribution and source provenance must be retained where required.

Private creation records, user preferences, individual votes, feedback and account-linked viewing activity require additional treatment. Their use beyond providing the disclosed platform features, including inclusion in datasets licensed to research or commercial partners, will be governed by a separately accepted Research Contribution Agreement and the applicable privacy basis. That program is not yet active. Service use, publication and a playback sharing switch do not by themselves provide that permission.

We cannot license rights you do not hold. Browser-extension and third-party-sourced data remain subject to their source restrictions. An opt-in cannot waive those restrictions. Votes, preferences and watching behavior are observations, not proof that someone understood or learned a concept.

Acceptable use and moderation

Do not infringe others’ rights, harass people, impersonate someone, publish unlawful material, upload malware or secrets, manipulate votes or research signals, bypass access controls, or abuse the service or its infrastructure. Automated access must respect the published interfaces and limits.

We may investigate reports, restrict access, remove content or suspend accounts for violations, security risks or legal requirements. Where appropriate, we will explain the action and allow you to contact us about a mistake. Use the reporting controls or email hello@openintuition.org with the relevant URL and details, including for copyright complaints. We have not designated that mailbox as a statutory registered copyright agent.

Deletion and ending use

You can stop using Open Intuition, unpublish your explanations and revoke connected agents. Request account or content deletion at hello@openintuition.org. The Privacy Policy explains retention and legal exceptions. Ending use does not revoke existing CC BY rights. Withdrawal from optional research is addressed in its separate agreement and does not waive applicable data-protection rights.

Availability, accuracy and liability

Scientific explanations, including AI-assisted ones, may contain mistakes. They are educational material and are not professional medical, legal, financial or other advice. Verify important claims against the underlying sources. We do not guarantee scientific accuracy, uninterrupted availability, preservation of every file, or that the service will meet a particular need. Keep your own copies.

To the extent allowed by applicable law, the service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. To the extent allowed by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits or lost opportunities arising from use of the service. Nothing excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limits mandatory consumer or data-protection rights.

Changes and contact

Material changes will be identified with a new effective date and communicated through an appropriate service notice. We will obtain renewed agreement or permission where required. A change to this page alone does not expand permissions over previously collected private data.

Questions and disputes can be sent to hello@openintuition.org. This draft selects no exclusive court, arbitration requirement or governing jurisdiction. Applicable mandatory rights continue to apply. The operator and jurisdiction-specific terms remain to be finalized before activation.
