Research Contribution Agreement

Draft for review · 2026-10-19 · not yet effective

This is proposed wording for Open Intuition. It does not enroll you in research or change permissions over your data. The legal operator and effective date will be identified before this draft takes effect. The current Privacy Policy continues to apply. Contact hello@openintuition.org.

An optional contribution to research and development

This is the proposed agreement for an optional research program. Enrollment and research exports are not currently available. Reading this page, accepting service terms, voting, publishing or enabling playback sharing does not enroll you. You will be able to use the platform without joining.

The program supports research into how people understand information and the development, evaluation and improvement of products, services and technologies that help explain ideas, including AI systems. This work may be conducted for commercial purposes.

The contribution you choose

Before enrollment, a separate affirmative choice will identify the operator, the agreement version, the purposes, the recipients or sufficiently specific recipient categories, the retention period, and the data you choose to contribute. Selected records may include your own explanatory content and revision changes, comments and critiques, intuition and preference notes, upvotes or ratings, and eligible viewing or interaction summaries associated with those explanations.

The selection must identify whether it covers future records, particular existing records, or both. It must not silently include earlier private contributions, another participant’s comments or someone else’s rights. Public-content licensing and account-linked research participation remain separate. Third-party paper text and assets require their own rights assessment.

Research permission and commercial licensing

For the selected contribution, and only to the extent you hold the relevant rights, you would grant Open Intuition a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to reproduce, analyze, annotate, combine, adapt and use the contribution for the stated research and development purposes. This includes creating datasets and other derived materials to develop, evaluate and improve technologies that help people understand information, including AI systems.

If you separately authorize external sharing, we may provide or license the selected contribution to the disclosed research or commercial partners for those purposes, including for payment. Partner access must follow the specified purposes, privacy protections and withdrawal terms. You would retain your ownership. No payment or revenue share is promised unless separately agreed.

This is a purpose-limited contribution, not a transfer of ownership or a waiver of privacy rights. It does not permit unrelated advertising, re-identification, unrestricted onward sale or unrestricted human access. A separate optional choice is required before identifiable viewing history is disclosed where applicable law requires it; that choice must specify the disclosure and its duration.

Extension and other restricted sources

Data obtained through the Chrome extension, including derived or de-identified versions, is subject to Chrome Web Store Limited Use restrictions. It is excluded from the proposed external research dataset program. Agreeing here would not make that data eligible. The same applies to data whose third-party terms do not permit the proposed research use.

Eligibility must be established from the source of each record and the relevant permissions. Mixed or unknown-source records cannot be treated as website-only data merely by exporting them from the same database. A person may make a new, independent, eligible contribution through a research flow, but copying restricted data does not remove its restrictions.

Privacy, access and retention

The enrollment notice must explain whether partners receive de-identified individual records, aggregate statistics or identifiable information. Removing names or replacing account IDs does not necessarily make a record anonymous. Only selected fields needed for the agreed purposes may be included. Credentials, security logs and unrelated reading history are not part of this program.

Before any transfer, we must establish recipient safeguards, retention and deletion procedures, and keep a record of the agreement and selected data. No indefinite retention is granted by this draft. A research notice must specify its duration; ordinary platform retention periods continue unless the person separately agrees to an eligible research copy.

Withdrawal and deletion

You would be able to withdraw from future research collection, use and transfers through a clear withdrawal control or by contacting hello@openintuition.org, without losing ordinary platform access. We must stop future uses covered by that withdrawal, remove identifiable research records we control unless lawful retention is required, and notify relevant recipients to act on the request.

We cannot promise to undo learning already incorporated into a trained model, retrieve independent CC BY copies, or reverse published anonymous aggregate results. Those practical limits do not override rights or deletion duties under applicable law. Where a model or output itself contains personal data, applicable obligations must still be assessed.

See the Privacy Policy for ordinary account and content deletion. Rights for published explanations remain governed by their applicable licenses.
